Bhaskar D. Rao

Dr. Rao has been with the University of California, San Diego since 1983 where he is currently a Distinguished Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He is the holder of the Ericsson Endowed Chair in Wireless Access Networks and was the Director of the Center for Wireless Communications (2008-2011). His research interests are in the areas of digital signal processing, estimation theory, and optimization theory, with applications to digital communications, speech signal processing, and biomedical signal processing.

Georgios B. Giannakis

Dr. Giannakis was a faculty member with the University of Virginia from 1987 to 1998 and since 1999 he has been a Professor with the University of Minnesota where he has held the ADC Endowed Chair of Telecommunications since 2001, was the Director of the Digital Technology Center (2008 - 2021) and is the McKnight Presidential Chair with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2016. Giannakis is internationally known for his work in the areas of statistical signal processing, distributed estimation using sensor networks, wireless communications, and cross-layer network designs.

Ioannis Katsavounidis

Dr. Katsavounidis has worked in industry and academia on numerous research topics in digital video processing. Since 2018, he has been a research scientist at Meta. His first well-known contribution is developing and popularizing the Video Multi-method Assessment Fusion (VMAF) objective quality metric. VMAF has become the de facto standard in the video streaming industry. His second significant contribution lies in developing the Dynamic Optimizer, a perceptual video encoding optimization framework.

Firouz Naderi

Dr. Naderi joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in 1979. His career at JPL spanned system engineering, technology development, and program and project management for satellite communications systems, Earth remote sensing observatories, astrophysical observatories, and planetary systems. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the recipient of several awards, including NASA's Outstanding Leadership Medal, Space Technology Hall of Fame Medal, and NASA's highest honor - the Distinguished Service Medal.

Carlos Busso

Dr. Busso joined the University of Texas, Dallas in 2009 and is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests lie in human-centered multimodal machine intelligence and applications. He was one of the first to computationally establish the patterns conveyed in acoustic features and facial features during emotional speech communication, demonstrating the intricate spatial-temporal interplay between articulatory and emotional goals.

Shan Liu

Dr. Liu is currently a Distinguished Scientist and General Manager at Tencent, where she leads the teams of Tencent Media Lab, Tencent Video, and Tencent Games to build technologies and products serving over a billion users. She was formerly the Director of the Media Technology Division at MediaTek USA. She was also formerly with Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories and Sony. Her research interests include audio-visual, volumetric, immersive, and emerging multimedia compression, intelligence, transport, and systems.

Mi Zhang

Dr. Zhang was a faculty member with Michigan State University from 2014 to 2022. Since August 2022, he has been with Ohio State University as the Director of Machine Learning Systems and AIoT Lab and an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. He works on topics at the intersection of systems and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, focusing on On-Device AI for mobile, AR/VR, IoT (TinyML), and distributed edge systems.

Chao Yang

Dr. Yang has been with Meta AI Research as a senior research scientist since May 2019, and has led a team of scientists and engineers to conduct cutting-edge research. His contributions to DeepFake creation and detection were highlighted at F8 (Meta's developer conference), and the technology has been deployed into Meta integrity systems. His developed technology on Avatar has been successfully transferred to Instagram as a popular AI filter.
