Short Term Department Visitors

The Ming Hsieh Institute excitedly welcomes visiting professors to the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering, and offers it's visiting offices to aid in the facilitation of research and collaboration between the visitors and USC Faculty and Students.

Valerie Issarny joined Inria Paris-Rocquencourt in 1999 where she has been leading the Inria ARLES project-team from 2002 to 2013. Prior to that she was working at INRIA-IRISA, Rennes, and spent a one year postdoc at the Univ. of Washington in 1992. She is co-founder of the Ambientic, a start up that develops innovative mobile collaborative applications based on its iBICCOP middleware for heterogeneous mobile platforms. Issarny is currently acting as scientific manager of the Inria @ Silicon Valley program, where she is hosted by UCB-EECS, PATH & CITRIS, and researching on smart cities.

Gene Cheung, an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo, Japan previously worked for Hewlett-Packard Laboratories Japan, from 2000-2009 as a Senior Researcher. Cheung received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 1995, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the UC, Berkeley, in 1998 and 2000, respectively. During his time at USC, Gene Cheung worked with students from Professor Ortega's group and discussed the possibility of a potential joint proposal titled, US-Japan Big Data and Disaster Research. In addition to these discussions, Cheung also gave a talk titled, "Graph Laplacian Regularizer for Inverse Imaging Problems."

Professor Ström is a highly respected communications theorist at Chalmers University. The Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering has several faculty advancing the state‐of‐the‐art in transportation related research. USC has faculty in the networking area who have been actively studying vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) as well as control system theory for transportation systems.

Dr. Bandyopadhyay visited USC from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Kolkata, India. During her time in Los Angeles, she worked with Professor Mitra's research group and her own group at TCS in the area of wireless body area sensing.

Professors Rao and Muralidhar, from the National Institute of Technology in Warangal, India visited with the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering for one month. In their time at USC they learned about university research, labs and best practices.
