K-12 Education Outreach Initiative
Signal Processing is an area of engineering that has several important human-centered applications. However, many young students don't realize the role this field plays in impacting the world around them every day. With a focus on BIPOC middle and high school students in the Los Angeles are, the Ming Hsieh Institute has helped organize an outreach initiative to improving understanding of signal and image processing.
In collaboration with the IEEE Signal Processing Society and USC Viterbi's K-12 STEM Center, MHI is developing activities focused on two human-centered signal processing domains: media signal processing and medical imaging and applications. The following materials, activities, and programs are being developed to educate students about signal processing and prepare them for careers in engineering.
