USC Signal and Image Processing Institute

The USC Signal and Image Processing Institute (SIPI) is internationally recognized as one of the top places in the world for signal processing research and training, building on a legacy of 50+ years of excellence, leadership, and technical innovation.

SIPI is presently home to 18 faculty members and dozens of PhD students and postdocs, assisted by world-class administrative, technical, and research staff.  Collectively, current SIPI faculty are supported by tens of millions of dollars of annual research funding, have been cited >375,000 times, and have received a wide assortment of prestigious awards and honors.

Signal Processing Leadership

SIPI faculty have a history of service and leadership within the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), and have played substantial roles in the development of the field.  Building on this long tradition, SIPI faculty currently serve on 8 major SPS Boards and Standing Committees, 3 SPS Technical Committees, and Editorial Boards for 2 SPS journals.

Our Graduates

SIPI has graduated more than 500 PhDs over the past half-century. Our alumni have helped to shape the modern digital world through major technical innovations and important leadership roles in academia, industry, and government.
